Plumbing & HVAC Operations Manager (Service & Construction)

Position Summary:
The Plumbing & HVAC Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing both service and construction operations, including managing field personnel, coordinating work, and ensuring profitable execution of all plumbing and HVAC activities. This role requires balancing fast-paced service demands with structured project execution while maintaining accountability, productivity, and quality across the board.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Personnel Management
- Oversee all plumbing and HVAC field employees, including service technicians, journeymen, apprentices, and foremen
- Assign and coordinate manpower across service calls and construction projects
- Hold employees accountable for performance, attendance, and preparedness
- Train, mentor, and develop field staff; address performance issues directly
Service Operations
- Manage scheduling and dispatch of service calls
- Ensure timely response, efficient routing, and high customer satisfaction
- Monitor technician productivity, billable hours, and callbacks
- Review service tickets, pricing, and invoicing for accuracy and profitability
- Resolve escalated customer issues
Construction Operations
- Plan and coordinate manpower, materials, and equipment for projects
- Monitor job progress, labor productivity, and job costs
- Conduct site visits to ensure quality, safety, and adherence to schedule
- Coordinate with project managers, general contractors, and other trades
- Identify and resolve field issues before they impact cost or schedule
Financial & Performance Management
- Track labor efficiency, job costs, and overall profitability
- Ensure projects and service work meet or exceed budget expectations
- Support estimating, bidding, and project planning
- Drive revenue through efficient operations and productivity
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all safety policies and OSHA requirements
- Ensure compliance with plumbing, HVAC, and local codes
- Maintain accountability for tools, equipment, and company assets
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience in plumbing and/or HVAC (commercial preferred)
- Proven experience managing crews and/or service technicians
- Strong understanding of both service and construction workflows
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with scheduling, manpower planning, and job costing
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Journeyman or Master License (Plumbing and/or HVAC)
- Contractor’s license
- Experience managing both service and construction operations
- Familiarity with dispatching and project management software
Work Environment:
- Combination of office and active job sites
- Frequent movement between service calls and project locations
- Fast-paced with shifting priorities

Compensation
$50 - $60 per hour
